I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live even though he dies, and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.’ John 11 vv.25-26. |
Arranging a Funeral at St Andrew's
Funerals are allowed under the current COVID rules. We are able to accommodate 30-40 people with social distancing or 60-70 comfortably. Please contact us to discuss what is possible.
Death and bereavement is always a difficult time for a family, our pastoral team are able to provide you with comfort and support, particularly after the funeral has taken place, should you wish it.
Everyone is able to have a Church of England funeral whether or not they have been a regular church goer.
The funeral service has a clear structure but there is some flexibility to create a service that best fits your situation. From simple and quiet service with only a few friends and members of the family present to an occasion of wonderful celebration and thanks for the life of the person who has died - with music, hymns and a packed church.
You can also choose to have contributions from friends and family in the form of readings, songs or the saying a tribute.
At the end of the service there is normally the burial of the person who has died in the church graveyard or a visit to the crematorium.

Where can the funeral service be held?
The funeral service can take place at St Andrew's church even if the person is not going to be buried in the church graveyard or they are going to be cremated.
Alternatively the whole service can take place at Tavistock Cemetery (which has a chapel for about 40 people) or at the crematorium, led by a minister from St Andrew's.
In which case the length of the service is usually limited to 20-25 minutes.
